Aural Comprehension for ESL I
Designed to aid the English as a Second Language (ESL) student to understand and communicate orally in English. Emphasis on pronunciation and listening ability. May be taken concurrently with ENG009, ENG010, ENG011, or ENG012. May be repeated for a maximum of six (6) credits. Prerequisites: Appropriate ESL placement test score.

1. Use and respond to simple greetings and introductions.
2. Ask for and tell time in minutes and hours.
3. Ask for and express periods of time in days, months, and years.
4. Ask for and express simple states of feelings and being.
5. Ask for and offer assistance.
6. Ask for and give personal information such as current employement, marital status, number of children, and relationships.
7. Ask for, give, and deny permission.
8. Request items or ask for information at a grocery stroe, at work, at home, or at school.
9. Express a lack of understanding of words and procedures.
10. Apologize and excuse self
11. Use American money for purchasing items and ask for and make change.
12. Use the telephone for social, personal business, and emergency purposes.
13. Ask for directions to a specific location (i.e., hospital, bank, and grocery store).
14. Ask about and express information in terms of the past and the present.
15. Use common tables of weights and measures.
16. Identify and name parts of the body
17. Name the rooms in the house and identify and name common household furnishings.
18. Express capability and incapability.
19. Discuss ownership, using possessive adjectives.
