Trauma Management II
Designed to instruct advanced prehospital care personnel the critical skills necessary to manage the trauma victim and the emergency scene through the Incident Command System (ICS). Enhances advanced emergency medical technology (EMT) skills by focusing on emergency care interventions. Provides advanced exposure to victim assessment, initial treatment, resuscitative skills, invasive techniques, electrical and pharmacologic interventions, stabilization, transportation of the victim to an emergency care facility, and documentation. Prerequisites: Arizona Department of Health Services certification as an Intermediate EMT or Advanced EMT, or Arizona registered prehospital nurse.

1. Identify advanced kinematics of trauma relative to vehicular mechanisms of injury and other types of trauma. (I, II, III, VIII, IX, XI, XII)
2. Identify and apply advanced emergency medical scene management skills to include size-up, multi-victim situations, hazardous materials, and integration of local EMS standard operating procedures and/or the ICS to selected victim scenarios. (II, III, IX, X, XI, XII)
3. Demonstrate advanced assessment and care management of the trauma victim to include the primary survey, vital signs, secondary survey, stabilization, transportation, and documentation. (III, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII)
4. Demonstrate advanced airway management for the trauma victim to include adjuncts, endotracheal/nasotracheal intubation, esophageal obturator airway, esophogeal gastric obturator airway, cricothyroidotomy, digital intubation, needle thoracostomy, and oxygentherapy according to DOT advanced curricula. (III, IV, VIII, XI, XII)
5. Identify principles of fluid resuscitation and demonstrate peripheral IV therapy, central IV therapy, and intraosseous fluid therapy according to DOT advanced EMT curricula. (III, V, VIII, XI, XII)
6. Identify pharmacologic and electrical interventions relative to care management of the trauma victim. (III, VI, VIII, XI, XII)
7. Identify the classification and depths of burn injuries, and demonstrate advanced resuscitative management of the burn victim to include advanced airway techniques, invasive procedures, and pharmacologic and electrical interventions. (III, VII, VIII, XI, XII)
8. Identify and demonstrate advanced resuscitative care management of the pediatric, pregnant, geriatric, diabetic, altered level of consciousness (ALOC), and crisis trauma victim to include advanced airway techniques, invasive procedures, EKG monitoring, and interventions. (III, VIII, IX, XI, XII)
9. Identify and demonstrate vehicular extrication in order to provide access to an advanced care management of the trauma victim. (III, VIII, IX, XI, XII)
10. Demonstrate emergency transportion criteria, communications, and operation of the emergency vehicle relative to advanced care management of the trauma victim. (III, VIII, X, XI, XII)
11. Demonstrate trauma victim assessment, basic and advanced airway management, invasive procedures, EKG monitoring, pharamacologic interventions, basic immobilization skills, Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (PASG) application, and control of hemorrhage/hypovolemia according to local EMS protocols and/or the DOT advanced EMT curriculaand the ICS. (III, VIII, XI, XII)
12. Demonstrate the ICS emergency scene management, extrication, assessment, basic and advanced care management, transportation, and documentation of the trauma victim in selected EMS scenarios. (III, XI, XII)
13. Demonstrate 86 percent proficiency on a written examination and 95 percent accuracy af all practice skills in selected EMS scenerios. (III, XII)
