Building Construction Methods II
Basics of building construction from the shell stage through the interior finish and trim carpentry. Focuses mainly on residential construction for the consumer. Includes plumbing, wiring, heating and cooling, insulation, drywall, interior wall coverings, floor finishes, door/window/closet finish and trim, and basic cabinetry. Energy conservation, safety, and building codes discussed throughout the course. Prerequisites: GTC182 or permission of instructor.

4. Name the various types of heating systems and cooling systems and describe the advantages and disadvantages of each. (II)
5. Describe the types, placement and installation of heating/cooling ducts and outlets. (II)
6. Calculate the electrical load requirements for a structure. (III)
7. Discuss the procedures involved in wiring the interior of a building for various light circuits and appliances. (III)
8. Describe how to wire a service entrance connection. (III)
9. Describe the types, amounts, placement and installation of insulation in residential structures. (IV)
10. Describe the procedure for hanging drywall. (V)
11. Describe the various options for interior wall/ceiling coverings and finish flooring and their installation. (V)
12. Describe types of interior doors and hardware options, and demonstrate installing the door frame and hanging the door. (V)
13. Describe the techniques used for the finish trim of doors, windows, baseboards and stairways. (V)
14. List the basic types of cabinetwork and the various design options that are available. (V)
15. Demonstrate the construction methods involved in building and installing cabinets. (V)
16. Disucss energy conservation as it applies to all phases of building construction. (I-V)
17. Discuss and demonstrate general safety practices for all phases of building construction. (I-V)
18. Locate and interpret applicable building codes during all phases of building construction. (I-V)
