Fundamentals of commercial building maintenance and repair. Includes instruction and hands-on application in a variety of construction/maintenance areas including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electricity, and floor care. Emphasis on safe use of tools and equipment.

1. Identify and demonstrate safety practices and procedures for the maintenance worker. (I)
2. Repair and replace asphalt shingle and built-up roof surfaces. (II)
3. Install and repair gypsum drywall panels. (III)
4. Test and repair galvanized and copper piping systems. (IV)
5. Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, drains, and traps. (IV)
6. Explain the heating/air conditioning/refrigeration cycle. (V)
7. Maintain and replace pulleys, bearings, and belts on HVAC units. (V)
8. Troubleshoot electrical wiring and components using a multimeter. (VI)
9. Replace switches, outlets, ballasts, and other electrical components accordiing to National Electric Code. (VI)
10. Select and use appropriate power floor-care equipment to maintain commercial flooring. (VII)
11. Develop maintenance schedules for facilities and equipment. (VIII)
