Investigates geological concepts and relates these to actual field experience in Alaska and Northwestern Canada. Includes geologic time scales, ice flows and glaciation, rock formation and tectonics. Camping out, rigorous hiking, backpacking, and canoeing required. Limited enrollment. Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor, at least 18 years of age by departure date, satisfactory physical condition (a hiking test must be passed prior to enrollment) and the ability to swim. Corequisites: BIO149AG.
