Technology as a Resource for Mathematics Educators: Trigonometry & Calculus

Introduction to integrating technology into the mathematics classroom. Local, state, and national standards for mathematics covered. Overview of various graphing calculator activities used to substantiate mathematical concepts. Provides an understanding of the process used to develop applications using graphing calculator technology. Emphasis on how various kinds of technology are researched via the Internet and used in education. Focus on trigonometry and calculus. Prerequisites: EPD260.

Define various types of technology. (II)

Identify various types of graphing calculators which can be used in the advanced mathematics classroom. (II)

Explain how students can use technology to solve multi-step complex mathematical problems. (II, III, IV)

5.

Use computer utilities to develop conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts. (III)

6.

Graph, using a graphing utility, functions in standard form as verification of linear, polynomial, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. (III, IV)

7.

Use real-word problems to motivate learning and apply mathematical theories. (III, IV)

8.

Develop and/or expand advanced mathematical concepts including finding the inverses of trigonometric functions and graphing them using technology. (IV, V)

9.

Explain the impact of using technology in mathematics. (V)

10.

Identify trigonometric equations, write complex numbers in trigonometric form, and graph using polar coordinates using a graphing calculator. (III, IV, V)

11.

Evaluate several applications of the graphing calculator from an end-user's perspective for their effectiveness. (III, IV, V)

12.

Create an integrated lesson plan using appropriate technological resources. (VI)

13.

Summarize how technology supports lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity. (I-VI)
