Health Information Management in Alternative Care Settings

Characteristics of non-acute care organizations in the United States. Standards and regulations for health records in those settings according to state, federal, and accrediting agencies. Applicable health record content and health information practices.

Prerequisites: HIM140 or permission of Program Director.

Describe the types of settings that provide ambulatory, long- term, home health, hospice, behavioral health, rehabilitative, correctional, and other care services in the United States. (I-VIII)

2.

Describe the types of patients and professionals that provide care in each type of health care setting. (I-VIII)

3.

Identify the organizations responsible for accrediting, certifying, and licensing various health care facilities. (I- VIII)

4.

Interpret the survey standards for health information services and prepare required reports. (I-VIII)

5.

List and describe the record content and documentation requirements for home health care, ambulatory care, hospice programs, long-term care, behavioral health, rehabilitative, correctional facilities, and other health organizations. (I- VIII)

6.

Analyze health records for required documentation. (I-VIII)

7.

Correlate reimbursement systems with the applicable health care setting. (I-VIII)

8.

Contrast health information practices in acute care hospitals to those in other settings. (I-VIII)
