Internship in Bilingual/ESL Education
Provides an opportunity for future teachers and teacher aides to receive supervised, practical, on-site experience in a K-12 bilingual or ESL(English as a Second Language) classroom under the direction of professional teachers.
Prerequisites: (EDU/EPD220 or EDU225), EDU230, or ENG213, and (EDU210 or EDU211), or permission of department. Corequisites: EDU244.

1. Demonstrate professionalism in arrangement and completion of internship experience. (I)
2. Identify responsibilities of the ESL/Bilingual teacher and teacher assistant. (I, II)
3. Identify characteristics of students enrolled in ESL/Bilingual programs, including educational background, languages used, and native language literacy. (II)
4. Critique school policies as they relate to English language learners. (II)
5. Contrast bilingual and English as a second language (ESL) programs. (III)
6. Report on the scope of bilingual, ESL, and multicultural programs at the on-site location. (III)
7. Create lesson plans under teacher direction. (III)
8. Collaborate with classroom teacher to implement instructional activities. (III)
