Designed to meet National and Arizona Department of Health Services (A-DHS) recertification for EMTs. Enhances the knowledge base of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and reinforces basic skills competencies. Prerequisites: Current validation in Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider/Professional Rescuer or permission of Instructor. |

Describe the scope of the duties of the basic emergency medical technician. (I) |

Describe the medical/legal aspects and quality improvement components in EMT-Basic patient care. (I) |
3. |
Identify and perform the processes of initial and ongoing assessment, the detailed physical exam, focused history, and vital signs. (II) |
4. |
Identify significant findings in Number 3 that indicate an emergency in any of the following categories: medical, environmental, traumatic, or surgical. (II) |
5. |
Identify and care for a patient in need of basic life support. (III) |
6. |
Use mechanical aids to breathing and circulation. (IV) |

Identify and treat a patient in shock, including use of the pneumatic antishock garment (PASG). (V) |
