World Dance: Irish Dance

Theory and practice of Irish Dance. Development of movement quality and performance skills, individually or in a group setting.

Prerequisites: None.

Course Notes: DAN120AC may be repeated for a total of two (2) credits.

Apply balance, coordination, and basic rhythms to body movement. (I)

Demonstrate basic foot patterns and movements in correlation to the music. (I)

Apply basic foot patterns, turns and body styling specific to the world dance technique. (I, II, III)

Use basic locomotor and axial movements in the center and across the floor. (II, III)

Demonstrate the basic elements of dance: space, time, and energy. (I-IV)

Use basic rhythmic analysis to demonstrate the impact of polyrhythms and syncopation on world dance. (IV)

Describe the history and culture of the music and the dance. (IV)

Identify the music and instrumentation that defines the dance. (IV)

Integrate learned skills and individual personality into creative self-expression of the dance. (I-IV)
