Practicum for Structured English Immersion (SEI)/English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers
Provides an opportunity to receive guided practical, on-site experience working with English Language Learners (ELL). Requires observations of ELL students in a variety of settings, evaluation of teaching techniques, and critical review of academic standards as they relate to Structured English Immersion (SEI)/English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. Prerequisites: (EDU225 and EDU230 and ENG213), and (EDU240 or EDU241).

1. Identify responsibilities of the SEI/ESL teachers relative to the students' grade level. (I)
2. Identify characteristics of students enrolled in SEI/ESL programs including educational background, languages used, native language literacy. (II)
3. Summarize SEI/ESL instruction from an administrative and instructional perspective. (III)
4. Review and analyze the literature that addresses the relevance of SEI/ESL instruction. (IV)
5. Create lesson plans. (V)
6. Demonstrate the ability to teach English Language Learners (ELL) students. (V-VI)
7. Evaluate teaching and learning in a SEI/ESL classroom. (VI)
8. Critique state standards in academic areas relative to English Language Learners (ELL) students. (VII)
9. Provide a journal of insights relative to the process of learning and progress of a particular English Language Learner (ELL) in the classroom, or a group of ELL's in the classroom. (VIII)
