Child Development Associate Preparation Practicum I

Participation in early childhood education related work experience for the purpose of final preparation for the Child Development Associate (CDA) national credential process.

Prerequisites: (ECH287, or CFS123, or CFS125) and (ECH271 or ECH280) and (ECH279, or CFS160, or ECH281, or CFS101AH, or CFS101AP, or ECH275, or ECH276, or ECH236, or CFS101AJ, or CFS101AR) and (ECH282, or ITD201, or CFS116) and (CFS285AA or ITD204).

Child Development Associate Preparation Practicum I

 

I. Healthy and safe environment

A. Identify and describe the routes of disease transmission

B. Demonstrate basic skills of an arrival health check

C. Identify developmental characteristics of young children which affect their safety and well being

D. Identify factors which contribute to safe playground activities and equipment selection/maintenance

E. Identify and explain elements in both indoor and outdoor environments that may have an impact on safety of young children

II. Advancement of children's physical and intellectual development

A. Explain how music and movement contribute to the social, motor-muscular, cognitive, and emotional development of young children

B. Describe and explain the relationship of play to learning at the early childhood level of development

C. Explain why the child's art activities should be viewed as a process of learning

D. Plan science experiences that are developmentally appropriate for young children

III. Positive support of children's social and emotional development

A. Analyze and arrange the environment in order to promote optimal, positive behavior

B. Identify and describe common social contexts in which today's children are living

C. Identify and describe the importance of relationships to developmental processes of children

D. Identify and describe potential threats to attachments and developing relationships

IV. Establishment of productive relationships with families

A. Describe a program that includes a mutually cooperative and supportive relationship with family and community which allows for parent involvement

B. Define a "home visit" and explain the importance of home visits

C. Investigate types, extent, and support of family/school interaction in preschools

D. Describe appropriate communication techniques used to develop relationships with family members in every situation
