Blueprints and Firestopping
Contents of a set of plans. Major divisions in a set of drawings and title blocks. Bidding requirements, contract forms and conditions of contract. Architect's scale. Architectural, isometric, structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and ductwork drawings. Symbols and abbreviations. Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning system operations. Calculate materials for insulation. Firestopping systems, materials, and installation. Prerequisites: Indentured status with the Heat, Frost, and Asbestos Workers Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) or permission of the apprenticeship coordinator.

1. Describe the contents of a set of plans including the set of drawings and the specifications. (I)
2. Identify the six major divisions in a set of drawings and indicate which division a sheet belongs to by the letter in the title block. (II)
3. Use specifications to find information on the construction site to include bidding requirements, contract forms, and conditions of the contract. (III)
4. Demonstrate use of an architect's scale to measure architectural drawings. (IV)
5. Draw and interpret a plan, front elevation, side elevation, and sectional views when given two views. (V)
6. Draw and interpret simple isometric drawings including pictorial views, and angels using isometric principles. (VI)
7. Use code references to trace information from one sheet to another. (VII)
8. Interpret the symbols and abbreviations used on a set of drawings. (VIII)
9. Read architectural drawings and identify various types of information found on architectural sheets and various types of lines used on architectural drawings. (IX)
10. Read structural drawings and find information, interpret elevation markings, and identify steel beams by code markings for purposes of insulation. (X)
11. Read plumbing drawings to identify specifications for insulation of piping. (XI)
12. Read electrical drawings to identify specifications for insulation of electrical wiring. (XII)
13. Explain the basic operation of a HVAC system. (XIII)
14. Read mechanical drawings to identify specifications for insulation of HVAC piping and electrical wiring. (XIV)
15. Read drawings for ductwork and calculate material needed to insulate ductwork. (XV)
16. Discuss firestopping systems including materials and installation related to insulation techniques. (XVI)
