First aid in a law enforcement environment, including impaired breathing, cardiac conditions, resuscitation, control of bleeding, movement of injured persons, shock, injury, and legal and civil issues associated with rendering emergency care.

1. Define first aid and identify the scope of training involved in first aid. (I)
2. Differentiate between implied consent and actual consent. (II)
3. Describe vital signs and their normal ranges. (III)
4. Demonstrate the ability to check a person's vital signs. (III)
5. Demonstrate techniques used to palpate a pulse. (III)
6. Differentiate between the various types of bleeding and demonstrate the proper technique for reducing the flow of blood produced by an artery, a vein, and a capillary. (IV)
7. Describe the signs of inadequate/impaired breathing. (IV)
8. Describe the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. (IV)
9. Demonstrate the correct procedure to perform one- and two - rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an adult as well as one - rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a child and an infant. (IV)
10. Describe the precautions and safeguards of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (IV)
11. Name the signs and symptoms of shock, and describe methods for the treatment of shock. (IV)
12. Describe the treatment steps, management procedures, appropriate care, and safeguards for specific illnesses and/or injuries. (IV)
13. Describe the signs and symptoms of cervical spinal fracture/injury and the procedure to stabilize and manage a victim. (IV)
14. Demonstrate the proper technique for lifting and moving a person with and without a spinal injury. (IV)
15. Describe the various types of burns, and describe the treatment for each. (IV)
