Advanced Emergency Medical Technology
Designed to provide the emergency medical technician with advanced knowledge about the acute critical differences in physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical symptoms, as they pertain to prehospital emergency care. Emphasis on developing diagnostic and advanced emergency treatment skills necessary to care for the acutely ill and seriously injured. Prerequisites: EMT235, EMT236, EMT/FSC238 and current course in American Heart Association Health Care Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer or National Safety Council Green Cross Professional Rescuer. Comprehensive written, oral and practical evaluation on all prerequisite courses required prior to selection for this course. Student must have a valid Arizona Certification and be employed as an EMT for one full calendar year prior to registration in this course.

1.	Describe the role and responsibilities of the advanced emergency medical technician (paramedic). (I)
2.	Perform a primary and secondary survey including medical history. (II)
3.	Apply the procedures of indentifying and treating shock, including IV fluid therapy and use of Pneumatic Anti-Schock Garment (PASG) suit. (III)
4.	Describe the actions, indications, contraindications, precautions, side effects and dosages of the drugs included in the current Arizona Department of Health Services approved paramedic drug box. (IV)
5.	Administer parenteral medications. (IV)
6.	Identify and treat respiratory emergencies. (V)
7.	Identify and treat cardiovascular emergencies including EKG interpretation. (VI)
8.	Identify and treat central nervous system emergencies. (VII)
9.	Identify and treat soft tissue injuries. (VIII)
10.	Identify and treat musculoskeletal emergencies. (IX)
11.	Identify and treat medical emergencies including diabetic, enviromental, toxicological, and genito-urinay emergencies. (X)
12.	Identify and treat obstetric and gynecological emergencies. (XI)
13.	Perform the unique procedures of pediatric and neonatal transport. (XII)
14.	Identify and treat behavioral emergencies. (XIII)
15.	Perform bio-telemetry communications. (XIV)
