Radiation safety and infection control procedures for
operator and patient. Film placement, exposure, development, mounting, and
evaluation of dental radiographs. Operation and maintenance of x-ray and
processing equipment. Interpretation of radiographic findings. Prerequisites: (Admission to the Dental
Assisting Program and DAE/DHE122) or permission of instructor. Corequisites: DAE/DHE124 or
permission of instructor. |

Dental Radiography Laboratory |
1.

Operate, maintain, and sterilize all radiographic
equipment used to expose radiographs. (I, II) |
2.
|
Demonstrate radiographic infection control procedures
while exposing and processing radiographs. (II) |
3.
|
Utilize radiation protection measures for the patient and
operator. (III) |
4.
|
Select appropriate types and sizes of dental radiographic
film and film holders to be used for the patient. (IV) |
5.
|
Expose
intraoral radiographs using the bisection, paralleling, and mixed techniques
on primary dentition, adult dentition, and edentulous DXTTR (dental x-ray
training replica) phantoms. (V) |
6.
|
Expose intraoral radiographs using the bisection, paralleling,
and mixed techniques on child and adult patients. (V) |
7.
|
Expose
accessory radiographs including the following films: topographical,
cross-sectional (pedodontic and adult), and distal
oblique. (VI) |
8.
|
Expose a panoramic radiograph on an adult or child
patient. (VI) |
9.
|
Process exposed radiographs using automatic and manual
techniques. (VII) |
10.
|
Identify and mount full-mouth series, horizontal and
vertical inter-proximal radiographs and accessory films. (VIII) |
11.
|
Evaluate radiographs by identifying technique errors,
cause for errors, and measures to correct them. (IX) |
12.
|
Identify the
anatomy of the dentition and landmarks of the maxilla and mandible using
intraoral and extraoral radiographs. (X) |
13.
|
Identify and chart atypical or pathological conditions
using intraoral and extraoral radiographs. (XI) |
14.
|
Maintain darkroom processing equipment including the
automatic processor and time-temperature equipment. (XII) |
15.
|
Duplicate radiographs. (XIII) |
