Experiential Techniques For Mental Health
Basic knowledge of various experiential techniques used in expressive arts and body based psychotherapies and the theories that support their use. Tools for integrating body, mind, spirit in an experiential and creative learning format focused on dance and movement, role play, anger work, art, writing, and active dream exploration. Prerequisites: PSY101 and BHS105.

1. Identify and describe the psychological theories and terms used in experientially based treatment. (I)
2. Apply techniques and activities utilized in dance therapy, art therapy, music therapy, psychodrama, gestalt therapy, and other experientially based treatment modalities. (II, IV)
3. Assess group and individual application of a variety of experiential theories and techniques in various therapeutic settings. (I, II, III, IV)
4. List specific techniques and how their own personal experience affects the use of the techniques. (II, IV)
5. Assess the goals and methods discussed and explore how they may be utilized within specific treatment settings and with various populations, (I, II, III, IV)
6. Identify and select appropriate modalities and techniques for specific use with clients. (II, III, IV)
7. Apply skills for intervention and recognition of opportunities for using their own creativity for brief therapy treatment and within more ongoing therapeutic settings. (II, IV)
8. Utilize transitional objects as tools for therapeutic experiential activities. (III)
