SMACNA Manuals & Duct Fab Standards
Standards, codes and ordinances, according to the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) manuals. Operating pressures, specific sealing requirements, connectors, reinforcing/gage requirements, specific seam types for duct fabrication and use of charts and tables. Prerequisites: (Indentured status with the Arizona Builders Alliance) or permission of the apprenticeship coordinator.

1. Use SMACNA manuals to determine standards for specific sheet metal jobs and to identify other specific standards, ordinances and codes. (I)
2. Define "operating pressure" and describe its affect on duct system design. (II)
3. Determine sealing requirements, gage requirements, minimum connector and reinforcing for specific duct runs using selected tables and charts. (III)
4. Describe the purpose of tie rods and explain when, where and why they are used. (IV)
5. Identify specific types of seams and state their limitations and proper application. (IV)
