Foundation for understanding pharmacological agents and anesthetic agents. Classification, methods of administration, and actions of drugs. Injectable and inhalation agents discussed, demonstrated, and administered. Prerequisites: AHT242.

1. Describe general types and groups of drugs. (I)
2. Store and handle biological and therapeutic agents appropriately. (I)
3. Administer oral medication by means of dosage syringe, balling gun, oral speculum, stomach tube, and hand pilling. (I)
4. Make intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, and intraperitoneal injections. (I)
5. Read and fill prescriptions, label and package drugs correctly. (I, II)
6. Calculate dosage carefully. (II)
7. Prepare medications accurately. (I, II)
8. Assist with anesthesia under supervision of veterinarian. (III)
9. Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care. (III, IV)
10. Recognize normal versus abnormal responses to medication. (IV)
