Transcultural Advocacy
Characteristics of an effective transcultural community health advocate. Communication skills and educational methodologies and tools for working with diabetic patients and their families. Community resources for the diabetic patient. Includes 50 hours of service learning experience in a healthcare setting. Prerequisites: HCC101, HCC103, HCC107, HCC109, HCC140, HCC151, AND HCC153. Corequisites: CHA101.

5. Identify and describe five community resources that benefit the diabetic patient. (III)
6. Describe the role of storytelling in patient education. (III)
7. Explain the importance of clear and accurate documentation in community advocacy. (III)
8. Complete an individual educational plan for a service learning experience approved by the faculty coordinator and the sponsoring healthcare agency. (IV)
9. Practice oral and written communication skills through a reflective journal and discussions related to the service learning experience. (IV)
